Lateral Force Resistance Device
A key factor involved in providing reliable, load-bearing support to anything installed
in ground surrounds the accompanying lateral forces. To date, the solution has often
been to pour a concrete collar around the pile, column, or anchor foundation utilized.
However, this old-school solution has, over the years, proven not to be the optimum
one for three reasons:
First, it's often an expensive proposition, especially if the construction location
is remote, and the batch plant is not close, as the transportation costs alone can
be prohibitive. Second, the use of concrete is very environmentally 'un-friendly,'
as the production and transportation of concrete is one of the largest causes for
harmful emissions to be released in the atmosphere. Finally, and in expansive soils,
a concrete collar will heave, and potentially cause the worst possible result: foundation
After 20 years of testing different methods, we took every good idea we've used,
seen, or researched, and invented & patented one of today's most sought-after solutions
in all construction: The Lateral Force Resistance Device, or 'LFRD.'
The LFRD was born out of the necessity to deliver a superior-performing, affordable,
and easy to install solution to handle lateral concerns in houses, buildings, pools,
and solar arrays. We've used the LFRD to provide required lateral support in conjunction
with our helical anchor product since 2007. We've produced several sizes depending
on diameter of helical anchor and/or geo pile utilized, from one fitting over a
2.5" anchor all the way up to one fitting over an 8" geo pile. We have produced
the LFRD from both steel (with corrosion protection) and composite plastic (no worry
about corrosion). There has never been a reported failure.
The net is the LFRD provides an exceptionally strong, easy to install and use solution
at a very cost-completive price -- especially when compared to the concrete alternative.
Below is an engineering schematic of the LFRD, as well as a six-picture sequence
of an installation over an anchor. Note ease of install, and how the device does
not inhibit any connection that would go from the ground up. Engineered and tested,
